ACC Arrests Environmental Health Inspector for Corruption

The Anti- Corruption Commission has arrested an Environmental Health Inspector for corruption involving K1,500.00

Chilufya Wapamesa, 28, of House No. MC1-301, Appolo Military Camp in Chilanga, has been arrested and charged with one count of corrupt practices by public officer contrary to Section 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

Details are that between 1st September 2022 and 26th September 2022, at Chilanga, Wapamesa being an Environmental Health Inspector under the Ministry of Health did corruptly receive K1,500.00 cash gratification from a named employee of West Pacific Farms as an inducement or reward for himself in order not to take any further action against West Pacific Farms for stocking expired goods.

The said Chilufya Wapamesa was apprehended red-handed with the bribe which he collected and which was also seized by the Commission. He is remanded in custody and will appear in court soon.

The Anti-Corruption Commission would like to urge all Zambians to report any solicitation of bribes by anyone as it would like to work to stamp out corruption of this nature in Zambia. The Commission will deal with every kind of corruption regardless of the amount involved as corrupt practices not only destroy the moral fibre of society but is a cost and compromises public service delivery.
