Former ZRA Officer Convicted for Corruption

The Lusaka Subordinate court has convicted a former Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) examining officer Mbulo Chikaya, for corruption involving K90,000.00.
Magistrate Hon. Stanford Ngobola has sentenced Chikaya to three (3) years, imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of corrupt practices.
The Anti-Corruption Commission in March this year, arrested Chikaya, 33, of Lusaka’s Avondale area, and charged him with one count of Abuse of Authority of Office contrary to Section 21 sub section 1 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
Details are that on unknown dates but between 1st January and 31st December 2016 in Lusaka, Chikaya did abuse the authority of his office in the manner he arbitrarily facilitated the clearance of a Mercedes Benz C220 belonging to a client, valued at K90,000.00 thereby circumventing the payment of tax.
This act was prejudicial to the rights and interests of the Government of the Republic of Zambia a matter or transaction concerning the Zambia Revenue Authority, a public body.
Chikaya has since been jailed at Lusaka’s Chimbokaila prison.
