ACC Investigates Traffic Police Officer For Soliciting a Bribe

The Anti- Corruption Commission has commenced investigations into alleged corrupt solicitation of a bribe by a named Traffic Police Officer from Central Police Station from a minibus driver.

The incident which happened on Saturday 29th October 2022 in broad view of several members of the public within the central business district of Lusaka, saw an identified Police Officer remove his head dress and demand for a bribe from a minibus driver to be put in his head-dress. A concerned member of the public confronted the Police Officer and the bus driver at which point the Police Officer is alleged to have run away leaving behind the head-dress with the bus driver.

The Commission wishes to sternly warn Traffic Police Officers to desist from soliciting and collecting bribes as it will not hesitate to effect arrests should this ever occur. The Commission further warms motorists, especially public transport drivers, that they should equally ensure that their vehicles are road worthy at all times and resist the temptation of offering bribes to Traffic Police Officers each time they commit a traffic offence as this not only compromises their integrity but also puts their lives at risk.

The Commission wishes to commend the alert and courageous member of the public for reporting the matter to the Commission. The Commission will pursue this matter to its logical conclusion and anyone found wanting will be prosecuted.
