Security Officer Convicted for Corrupt Practices

The Lusaka Subordinate Court has convicted and sentenced Arm Secure Security Guard to nine (9) months imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices contrary to Section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

In passing judgement Hon. Mwaka Mikalile Principal Resident Magistrate found Gabriel Veiga, 45, of Plot 70/70 off Mumbwa Road Lusaka West, guilty of Corrupt Practices contrary to section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 as read with section 41 of Act No. 3 of 2012. Hon. Mikalile has however, suspended the sentence to twelve (12) months.

The particulars of the offence being that Gabriel Veiga on dates unknown but between 1st September, 2016 and 14th October, 2016, in Lusaka, solicited and did actually corruptly receive Two Thousand Kwacha (K2,000.00) cash gratification from Mr. Derrick Munyemyembe, a private person contracted by Parmalat Zambia Limited to repair the Company’s Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, as an inducement or reward for having played a role in the contract with Parmalat Zambia Limited for the repair of CCTV at the plant, a matter or transaction concerning Parmalat Zambia Limited and Arm Secure, private bodies.
